i've recently discovered my new favorite thing to eat. It's a traditional Icelandic dish called "Slatur" (kind of rhymes with "slaughter") composed mainly of fresh sheep blood, mixed in with some sheep fat, oats and sugar, and then tied up in sheep's stomach and cooked. some say it has the texture of really dense cake, and tastes a little sweet with a metallic twist. a bit "ironic", if you ask me (pardon the pun).
another Icelandic dish i've decided to adopt as my own is called "Hakarl" or "Rotted Shark". Apparently the sharks in Iceland are poisonous if eaten right away, so instead, they let the shark flesh ferment either in the ground or hung up in a barn, uncovered for about 6 months.
six.
months.
and then, when you eat it, you almost die. the locals describe the flavor as having strong similarity to that of Ammonia.
I'm hungry.
